Re: Coronavirus Update – School Closure
Following last night’s announcement by the Government, we have now been instructed to close the school to most children after this Friday until further notice.
As advised by the Prime Minister and Education Secretary, we will do all we can to stay open for the children of key workers and children with specific needs.
We are waiting for the Government to clarify the situation for us in more detail, so once again, we do not have all the answers but Lancashire have produced an initial list for key workers. As we understand it at present, these include BOTH parents in working parent families being support workers or single parent working families being support workers in the following areas:
· Health Services
· Social Care
· Delivery Drivers
· Emergency Services
· School Workers Please can parents inform the school office, preferably by email – firstname.lastname@example.org by 8.30 am tomorrow if you fall into any of these categories. When emailing, please could you state which working category/categories applies to your family. Please note you may be asked to provide proof of employment in these areas.
Little Stars before and after school club provision is still available for families who would benefit from this service. If you will require this provision, please let us know in your email so we can ascertain numbers.
The above list is not definitive and will be updated again once further guidance has been provided. Attendance for these children is optional.
School will also open its doors for ‘vulnerable children.’ Guidance from Lancashire is that these are children on Child Social Care, Children and Family Wellbeing Service, Edge of Care, EHCP, EHCP (mid process) and open CAF. Lancashire is informing us that attendance for children in these categories is non-optional.
School is in the process of collating this information and will be in touch with relevant families shortly. Please do not contact us regarding this category of children.
If your child usually receives free school meals we will also be in touch with more information about how we will continue to provide this.
All other children, who do not fall into the above two categories, will need to stay at home, so we ask that you do not send your child into school from Monday onwards. Please note –this is a national closure, so while it is a challenging situation that we find ourselves in, we must adhere to advice being given to us.
Whilst your child is at home, we will do our very best to help your child continue to learn. Please keep a close eye on the school’s website and your child’s class page for instructions and tasks available for them to undertake at home. Over the last couple of days, logins should have started to appear in your child’s homework diary for them to be able to access the online platforms suggested. Teachers will continue to update these pages daily, so please keep your eye on this. All teachers are contactable via their class email addresses which should also be notable on their class pages. Any questions or queries regarding school work should be directed through these email addresses from next week.
This is as much as we know right at this moment in time and we appreciate your continued patience as we deal with this unprecedented situation. We understand that this latest news will have an impact on you and your families and it is far from an ideal situation, but we will continue to keep you updated the best that we can.
As you will all be aware, the Education Secretary made a statement yesterday afternoon that schools will be closed from the end of Friday, 20 March 2020 with the exception of key worker children and children from vulnerable groups.
As of yet, I have had no further clarification around the details of this. Nevertheless, I am aware that many parents have lots of questions (as do I) but at the moment I am not in a position to answer many of them. I will do my very best to obtain further information and get this to you by the end of today. However, I would kindly ask that you please bear with me whilst I seek this clarification.
What I can tell you is that we will be open today and tomorrow, as usual, for those able to attend and who are not displaying symptoms.
Please be assured that we are working extremely hard to put in place as many measures as we can to allow us to continue to deliver the best possible education, in the current situation. If you have any questions or queries, please email email@example.com and we will do our best to answer as many as we can in our update later today.
Little Stars breakfast and after school club is available for today and tomorrow. I will update you further on details for next week as soon as I am advised.
Thank you for your understanding, patience and continued support as we work our way through these unsettling times.
Take care and God bless.
