Miss Howard and Mrs Lightbown share the year five class. Miss Howard teaches on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings; Mrs Lightbown then teaches for the remainder of the week. We are supported by Mrs Cook in the mornings and Mrs Sullivan in the afternoons. 

Welcome to Year 5!

We are all looking forward to working together this year to help the children in all aspects of their learning.  We strongly believe that a great home-school partnership is key to helping each child to thrive at our school so should you have any questions please don't hesitate to drop in and ask.

In Year 5, we learn about a wide variety of topics that excite and interest the children. They will become ever more confident and independent and can take greater control over their own learning.

The children are encouraged to talk about the things they excel at and things they are trying hard to get better at. This way the children progress well at their own level. 

Year 5 is a fun, bright and safe environment where the children are happy to learn.

Key Information:

Reading is very important in Year 5! 

Children will have the opportunity to choose their own book using our Accelerated Reader scheme.

It is recommended that children read at least three times per week at home and a note is written in their reading record by an adult. 

Reading records must be brought into school every day. 

Homework will be added to Purple Mash to be completed electronically. We will practise spellings, reasoning and problem solving around multiplication tables and grammar skills each week. 

This half term we will have PE on Mondays and Thursdays.

Thursday - Forest School

Please can your child come into school in their Wellfield PE kit on Mondays. 

For forest school, children should wear waterproof shoes or boots, full length trousers and long sleeved tops. Please be advised that children may get muddy so old clothes are recommended.

Please be advised that children will take part in forest school in all reasonable weather conditions so please pack waterproof clothing if possible.
