We have a new topic every half term. This will usually be based on history or geography. We also have a new RE topic every half term.
As part of our 'Survival' topic, we will be focusing on writing our own adventure stories. We will be reading a range of stories using extracts, and our class book will be Kensuke's Kingdom. In Mathematics, we will focus on arithmetic skills, fractions and basic algebra. In Science, we are looking at evolution and inheritance. RE is all about our 'Life as a Journey', where we will reflect on our past and look forward to the future. Our topic work will be mainly Geography, particularly studying North America.
This term we will continue to deepen our understanding of the basic skills in Mathematics, also looking at shape. Our writing unit is based on Classic fiction, and we will use The Wizard of Oz to inspire us. Science will focus on 'Light and Dark', completing experiments on how light travels and revising work on shadows. RE is focused on how Christians celebrate Christmas. Our topic is mainly music-based, looking into the history of pop music. This begins with looking at the work work of Benjamin Britten.
As part of our Super Sleuth topic we will be writing our own detective story. We are focusing on improving our own work and becoming independent writers. In history we will be looking at the Vikings and the Norman conquest. In science we are focusing on our keeping healthy topic.
Our RE topic is all about Easter and the life of Jesus.
We are starting off our Titanic topic with a unit on stories with a flashback. Hopefully in a few weeks we will have written our own story based on the Titanic disaster! We will also be beginning the novel Carrie's War. Our remaining time will mainly be used for revision for the SATs in May. Our RE topic is all about Ascension and Pentecost. In science we are looking at classifying different living things.
